A compact flash card is small, removable storage device that depends on flash memory technology, which does not need a battery in order to keep its data forever. These flash memory cards can work at 3.3V and 5.5V and can alternate between the two voltages where as other memory cards can only operate at one voltage.
Compact flash cards are available in two different sizes: Type I cards are 3.3mm thick while Type II cards are 5.5mm thick. These cards are based on the PCMCIA PC Card standard, which can be used in a PCMCIA slot using an adapter.
