Google building a home entertainment system?

Google

Google has a plan put together to enter the home entertainment market with a brand new Google-based wireless device that streams music within a house, according to the Wall Street journal. In addition to the new music, the device may also stream other media according to the Journals sources that are familiar to the company’s plans.

The new Google home entertainment system, which could be out as early as later this year, would allow users to download digital content and stream it to other devices in the home like speakers, which would also be made by Google or possibly other vendors. This product if put into production would be the brainchild of Google’s Android team.

This device would be incorporated with Google’s cloud based online music service called Google Music which includes song and album sales and is integrated with the company's Google+ social network. Google Music also lets users store and play back music, with all Google’s songs available on the Android market. Google Music is compatible with Android and Apple iOS devices, which can then be accessed from PC browsers.

Other people have reported however that the device will not be a serious look by Google into the hardware business. They have said that it is more likely that Google will use the device to set up the market for other products to support enhanced multimedia offerings.
