5 Ways To Stay Entertained Using Your Smart Speaker

19th February 2021

Remember purchasing your first smart speaker? Asking it questions and being amazed, laughing when it didn't quite understand your request, asking it to tell you jokes...and noticing yourself saying 'please' and 'thank you' (we've all done it). Well, you probably think you know everything about your trusty-speaker, but there are plenty of features just waiting to be used. It's time to become reacquainted and explore the wide range of games and activities your smart speaker holds.

Quiz Night In

I think it's safe to say we've passed the 'Zoom Quiz' era of lockdown, but a quiz is still a great way to pass the time and do something different on a weekday evening. Gather the family and turn your Google Assistant into your own quiz master! There are plenty of topics available, from music to general knowledge. Here are some of our favourites.

Google Nest/Home:

"Hey Google, Play Lucky Trivia"
"
Hey Google, Play Crystal Ball"
"
Hey Google, Play Mad Libs"

Children's Stories

Mix-up bedtime stories with help from your Smart speaker. Simply ask your assistant to 'Read a bedtime story!' and let them do the work. Choose from short or longer bedtime stories to help your child get to sleep!

Relax

Need some chilled-time to yourself once in a while? Use your smart assistant to bring mindfulness into your home. Ask your Google Home or Nest to 'Help me relax' or 'Play ambient noise' for the ultimate calming vibe. You can even listen to specific sounds, such as white noise, forest and even fireplace sounds! Link to a Headspace account to enjoy guided meditation sessions. For those missing out on their usual yoga sessions, your Google Nest is the perfect companion and can be used to display a wide range of yoga positions which you can follow.

Cooking

Put the cookbooks down and enjoy a hands-free recipe experience with your smart speaker. Your Google assistant is packed with all different types of recipes just waiting to be used. Simply ask your smart speaker for recipes, and even display them with the Google Nest Hub! The Google Nest Hub can be simply propped up on your countertop, and you can follow along easily thanks to its sleek, responsive interface.

Movie Night

Use your smart speaker as a way to play your favourite movies! Using a Chromecast, you can play and control TV shows and films on your Google Nest display or on your TV. You can even ask your Google smart speaker to recommend movies depending on which genres you like.

We hope you've learned a bit more about your smart assistant and have fun exploring all the games and fun options there are! Have you used any of these features before?
