How To Clean your SteelSeries Wrist Rest

18th March 2021

If you have a wrist rest like this SteelSeries model above, you'll know that wrist rests are the perfect keyboard accessory for support and comfort while typing or gaming. But, with their soft rubber materials it's easy for your wrist rest to pick up dirt and dust.

Gaming or working with a sticky or dirty keyboard wrist rest, isn't ideal and may not be comfortable, it's also important to clean your wrist rest regularly to keep it germ-free!

So, what's the best way to keep your wrist rest clean?

If your wrist rest is not to dirty, simply wiping with a damp cloth can do the trick, or if you just have an issue with dust, wiping with a duster and polish will help! Remember to consider the material that your wrist rest is made from, some materials can be easier to clean, and others such as leather wrist rests my require more delicate treatment to keep them in perfect condition.

If you have any stains, or your wrist rest is sticky or greasy, a damp cloth might not be enough to remove these so you may want to try other methods to get it sparkling clean!

Using washing up liquid

Rather than just using water alone, adding a small amount of soap to warm water can help make the cleaning process easier, especially for removing grease or sticky areas. Simply dampen your cloth in the soap and water mixture and wipe the wrist rest clean.

Using wipes

For a quick and easy clean, wipes are the perfect solution. Using disinfecting or anti-bacterial wipes is also a great way to keep, not just your keyboard rest, but your desk and other gaming accessories clean and free from germs too as they will kill bacteria and viruses, including Covid-19 (depending on what brand you purchase).

If you're cleaning with wipes containing chemicals, try not to use any that contain harsh chemicals or bleach, as this may cause discolouration to your wrist rest, particularly if it is made from faux leather or fabric.

Using sanitiser or rubbing alcohol

Strong chemicals such as these are great for getting rid of stains or grease that have built up on your wrist rest. Similar to the wipes, sanitiser is very effective against bacteria and viruses, you're likely to have some close by! Simply add some to a cloth and use this to wipe your wrist rest, and other accessories such as your mouse too, it can even be used to clean the keyboard!

Keeping your keyboard wrist rest clean will be quick and simple using any of the methods above, make sure to keep these methods in mind and clean your accessories regularly!
