What is PCIe Gen 4.0 Technology?

PCIe 4.0 is the latest generation of this high-speed interface technology. Compared to PCIe 3.0, it has double the throughput making it twice as fast. What's not to love? PCIe 4.0 is also fully backwards compatible, meaning it can be used as a direct replacement for PCIe 3.0. It offers many advantages such as higher bandwidth and data transmission. Latency is lowered, meaning professionals and gamers will really feel the performance benefits of upgrading to a faster and more reliable SSD in their systems. While the term PCIe has become almost interchangeable with NVMe, PCI Express relates to the specification of the physical connection and NVMe is the protocol or language between the CPU and the SSD.

Design Meets Performance

We don't know about you, but we think WD's Black series of products look pretty cool. The sleek, modern look of the SN850 SSD is no exception, and the heatsink version not only keeps it running cool and minimises thermal throttling, but it also features RGB lighting! You can enhance your gaming setup with the fully-customisable RGB lighting which can be controlled through the WD_BLACK Dashboard on Windows to match your style.

WD Software

WD allow you to customise and control your SN850 SSD by using their WD_BLACK Dashboard software. This software allows you to maintain the peak performance of your SSD in Windows operating systems with a user-friendly interface. We really like how user-friendly the software appears and enjoy having the option to customise and control the SSD. The software also lets you monitor the health of your drive and optimise performance using gaming mode. WD also provide a free download of Acronis TrueImage for Western Digital which allows you to easily and quickly clone or backup your drive and create bootable rescue media.
