Women in Streaming: Charlotte Rouget-Murphy

8th March 2021

Interview with Charlotte Rouget-Murphy

UK based Twitch streamer.

Name: Charlotte Rouget-Murphy
Pronouns: She/her
Based in: London, UK
Platform: Twitch
Streams: A little bit of everything! Yakuza, Sea of Thieves, Call of Duty, loads of Indie games. A little bit of everything!

Hi Charlotte! Tell us three fun facts about yourself.

Hi! Hmm, let's see...
  1. I'm an ambassador for both SpecialEffect and Safe in Our World charities.

  2. I have a little sausage dog called Loki and a cat called Charlie.

  3. I work for SEGA!

When did your streaming journey begin, and what inspired you to start?

I started really casually streaming a few years ago, picked it up a little more seriously in the last year when we started doing streams at work. My charity work is really what kicked it all off even more, since it gives me a good platform to talk about all of the work we get to do! One of the best things is being able to speak so openly and honestly about mental health and things that mean a lot to me, but also have a lovely receptive and sweet community that are always there for each other too.

What's your favourite game/content to stream/share? What do you enjoy most about it?

My absolute favourite thing to play at the moment is Sea of Thieves! I get to play with some of my closest friends and relax while sailing about on the seas singing shanties. It gives me a chance to be able to engage with chat a little better since I can pay attention to them more!

Do you feel like there is a stigma for women streamers in the industry?

I do, yeah. The most obvious one being that our successes are only because we are female, and not down to our content or things we do. The amount of work that goes into streaming and content creation in general is large, and for that to just be overlooked because of gender is really disheartening

What's one piece of advice you'd give to women who want to begin streaming?

Don't ever worry about numbers - turn off your viewers, it helps a lot with the pressure of thinking no one is watching you. For a time, sure, there will be no one but perseverance pays off!

Also don't put up with any negative comments at all, even if it's the only interaction you are getting. It's not good for your mental health if you stream and are unhappy about it, but also if someone sees that negativity is "accepted" it will let more people think that it's okay to do.

Where can people find you online?

You can find me streaming at twitch.tv/PixelChark or I live on Twitter (@PixelChark).
