Hi Jessica! Tell us three fun facts about yourself.
- I have an adopted cow called David
- I can wakeboard but…
- I can't swim
When did your streaming journey begin, and what inspired you to start?
I started streaming over lockdown. I had watched a few of my friend's streams in the past and they'd encouraged me to give it a go myself, so around July 2020 I started streaming Warzone. I've branched out recently to games I find less intense to play, as I feel the stream is more enjoyable when I can interact with the chat properly!
What's your favourite game/content to stream/share? What do you enjoy most about it?
My favourite game to stream at the moment to share is Genshin Impact. I'm a big fan of anime films and feel very late to the party in that genre of game. The graphics, especially over lockdown, have been a very welcome escape. I also really like having a fast moving chat of people giving me advice when I'm stuck!
Do you feel like there is a stigma for women streamers in the industry?
Yes and no. I honestly have been very well supported by the men I game with. I currently have no female friends who game, which is a shame, but I've never felt I'm missing out as the men I game with are fantastic. I don't feel treated any differently by them and they are very good with keeping the chat in check if anyone says something inappropriate. I do think there is a perception of female streamers dressing a certain way, or being a certain way in order to gain more followers, but I think this is down to lack of understanding and not actually spending on any time watching female streamers.
What's one piece of advice you'd give to women who want to begin streaming?
Do it! Reach out to other womxn online who stream as everyone is usually very friendly and happy to have a chat. Find a game that makes you happy and that you feel comfortable playing as your interaction with it will be more organic and enjoyable to watch. Be happy and confident and don't feel pressure to stream when you don't want to - if you are enjoying yourself, the people watching you will too.
