But whatever your needs and budget, our two favourite DJI drones – the DJI Mini 2 and DJI Air 2S – will almost certainly tick most boxes for you, whether you’re a beginner or an experienced drone pilot.

ARE DRONES LEGAL TO FLY?

Yes, they are perfectly legal to fly, however you will need a licence and to follow these rules when flying:

  • Fly below 120m (400ft)
  • Do not fly closer to people than 50m
  • Keep at least 150m away from residential, recreational, commercial and industrial areas
  • Never fly over people who are crowded together
  • Stay well away from airports, airfields, spaceports and aircraft (This can result in jail time if you breach these locations)
  • Don’t fly under the influence of drugs or alcohol

ARE DRONES SAFE TO FLY?

Yes, drones are perfectly safe to fly as long as you always keep your drone or model aircraft in direct sight and make sure you have a full view of the surrounding airspace, without any other other hazards in the air e.g. birds, kites, other model aircrafts etc.

DO I NEED A LICENCE TO FLY A DRONE IN THE UK?

Yes, you are required by UK Law to have two IDs in place before flying most drones or model aircraft outdoors in the UK:

  • Anyone who will fly must pass a theory test to get a flyer ID
  • The person or organisation that owns or is responsible for the drone or model aircraft must register for an operator ID

Most people get both a flyer ID and operator ID at the same time. Failure to have an ID can resort a fine or in serious cases jail time.

DO I NEED A LICENCE TO FLY A DRONE INTERNATIONALLY?

It will depend on the country but each have their own rules and regulations when it comes to flying a drone in a foreign country. Best practice advice from across the board is:

  • Maximum height for drones is 300-400 ft. or 120m
  • Never fly over people or near crowds
  • Don’t fly under the influence of drugs or alcohol
  • Always keep your drone in eyesight
  • Only fly in daylight

These general guidelines should be followed no matter where you are, even if the country doesn’t require it, to ensure your flight is safe and successful.
