We’ve all been patiently awaiting the release of the upcoming PlayStation 5 this holiday season 2020 since Sony announced the console.
The PS5 comes with an Ultra-High Speed SSD to bring you near instant load times, as well as Integrated I/O to allow creators to design games in new ways. On top of these features, the PS5 will be compatible with 4K-TV and also supports 8K output so that you can experience the new striking games on a 4320p display.
Disc-Drive and Discless Edition Consoles
Sony will be releasing, not one, but two PS5 consoles later this year, one of which features a disc-drive as a standard console with a slightly different shape to the design to incorporate the drive. The drive in this edition of the PS5 will be compatible with 4K UHD Blu-ray discs.
The PS5 Digital edition will be an entirely digital console which means Blu-ray discs cannot be used, along with PS5 and PS4 physical disc games and DVD’s
What PS5 Games Will be Available at Launch?
Sony have lined up a range of stunning games for release this year and in 2021 including, a new Spiderman game, Ratchet and Clank and a new 3D SackBoy game. With the new PS5 features, we can’t wait to experience these games and their incredible graphics.
As well as games from your favourite developers coming with the PS5’s release, the console will be coming with a preloaded game called Astro’s Playroom. This game was created to introduce players to the new DualSense controller.
Can I play PS4 games on PS5?
The PlayStation 5 will be backwards compatible with the PlayStation 4. In terms of which games will be playable, Sony has been testing as many games as they can to ensure they will run properly on the next-gen console, but has confirmed that the majority of the games will work.
You will be able to download previous PS4 games you’ve purchased from the online store you’re your PS5. However, keep in mind that if you do want to play PS4 games that you own as a physical disc, you will need the Disc-drive edition of the PS5.
How much will the PS5 cost?
Details on the cost of the PS5 have not yet been made available by Sony.
Due to the lack of disc-drive in the PS5 digital edition it is likely that this will save some buyers money and come as a cheaper option, however you lose the ability to use physical discs should you need to.
PS5 DualSense Controller
You can take control of your new PS5 with the new DualSense controller it features an intuitive layout with enhanced sticks and a re-imagined light bar.
The new controller has kept some of the great Dualshock 4 functions, such as the built-in battery, integrated speaker and the motion sensor, but it also comes with its own upgraded features for a new iconic way to play.
The controllers haptic feedback function allows you to feel more physically responsive feedback during game-play, which replaces the usual rumble feature. The triggers have also received an upgrade, making them more adaptive to change your in-game experience with different levels of force and tension.
What Accessories are Available for the PS5?
The list of accessories currently to be released with the PS5 later this year includes;

- The Media Remote
Will the PS5 have VR?
Sony has confirmed that the PS5 will support VR, however we don’t yet know what games will be available in this format, or the hardware that will be available. It's possible that the current PlayStation VR hardware may be compatible with many PS4 games being playable with the PS5.
