Xbox SeriesS Inside

Xbox Series SXbox Series S

Excitement is in the air and the anticipation is building, for the future of gaming will soon be upon us.  Nothing is more thrilling than the dawn of a new console generation and the leaps that will soon be taken in terms of technological power and graphical ability will soon be in our hands and before our eyes.

With not just one but two releases forthcoming from Microsoft, you can learn more here about both console launches and what the key differences are below.

WHEN WILL THE XBOX SERIES S BE AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER?

If you can't get enough of the hype and want to get your hands on the Xbox Series S then you'll be able to pre-order from September 22nd 2020.

WHEN WILL THE XBOX SERIES S BE RELEASED?

The fun officially begins on the 10th November. It's a global release, so you'll be able to experience next generation gaming wherever you are.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE XBOX SERIES S AND SERIES X?

Primarily and perhaps most startlingly, the two consoles look absolutely nothing alike.  The Xbox Series X is an imposing giant of a machine while the Series S is more compact and comparable to the Xbox One S, albeit with the top grille a much more striking and noticeable shade of black.

As far as the internal workings go, while the Series S is clearly trimmed back from the Series X , it still holds up well.  Both are powered by a custom Zen 2 eight-core processor and have slightly differing CPUs speeds (3.8GHz for the Series X compared with 3.6GHz for the Series S).  Elsewhere the differences are a lot more stark.

Graphically speaking, the Series X supports 12 TFLOPS compared to just 4 for the Series S.  Without bombarding you with too much technical jargon, let's just say that this represents a huge leap in home console visual capability.  You can find more about what this means here.

Storage wise, both will feature an SSD for faster load times. The Series X comes with 1TB internal SSD, with room for an additional 1TB expansion allowed.  What's more, it will also support USB 3 and up external hard drives.  The Series S meanwhile will have a 512GB SSD which is a little on the smaller side given the size of some games these days, but this is in part why the cost of the console itself has been so affordable.

Lastly, there will be no physical disc drive on the Series S, whereas the Series X will sport a 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray drive for games and movie playback alike.

HOW MUCH WILL THEY COST?

The Series S will cost £249.99, whereas the The Series X will cost £449.

WHAT GAMES WILL BE AVAILABLE?

A whole host of exciting titles will be available, from:

Gears Tactics - a turn-based strategy game spin-off of Gears of War
Yakuza: Like A Dragon - The next entry in the enthralling Japanese crime drama series.
Assassin's Creed Valhalla - Become a Viking raider and lead your clan from icy desolation
DiRT 5 - High octane action featuring four way split-screen driving action and a cinematic career mode.
Watch Dogs: Legion - Experience a near-future London facing it's downfall.  Play as anyone and build your own resistance.
The Falconeer - An open-world aerial combat RPG, featuring frenetic aerial dogfights and deep exploration of the mysterious open-world.

In addition to this Smart Delivery will allow you to play upgraded Xbox One games on the Xbox Series S for free.

WHAT ACCESSORIES ARE AVAILABLE FOR THE XBOX SERIES S?

In addition to the sleek new controller, which has been given a style and handling upgrade from what we already know and love - without dramatically changing any of that original charm - any officially licensed Xbox One accessory that connects to your console wired or wirelessly via USB will work on The Xbox Series S.

WHICH ONE SHOULD I BUY?

Both consoles have their plus points so ultimately this question ultimately comes down to your individual budget and requirements.  If you're heavily into your gaming and absolutely must have the top of the line when it comes to home entertainment then obviously the X Series is perfect for you whereas those with more budget restraints will gravitate toward the Series S.  All in all, with the arrival of the Playstation 5 also on the horizon, it's certainly an exciting time for gamers ahead.
